During our second movement, No.2 -- Ensembling of Wayfinder 2020 devised symphony, we brought together wayfinders around the world to share different stories, methods, approaches, and experiences — ensembling in groups with the ‘instruments’ and sounds of the first Movement, No. 1 — Tuning.

We introduced four different types of ensembles -- a mixture of different sizes, open/public and closed conversations -- to learn together and embolden our actions in our own local contexts.

We found refuge and solidarity as well as new insights and knowledge through this global exchange.

The actions and insights from our first and second movement are central to our third movement, No. 3 -- Playing.

In this movement, we are playing back our collective knowledge and insight, amplifying the messages and the learning — and a felt experience.

This is where our collective score begins to emerge.

This is where artist-composers join our playing, as we make sense of the dissonance and harmony around the world, translating and giving further meaning to the Wayfinder content through art and music.

Sounds of the Artist-Composers

Below is a growing soundscape, a series of samples and tasters of the continued magic that will be shared in Movement No.4 — Magic Each sample draws from different voices, sounds, stories, reflections and moments from the two movements that brought us here: Tuning and Ensembling.

Listen.

Close your eyes.

Wayfinding’

‘Wayfinding’ is a response to the sounds of chaos offered by participants of Tuning 1 during Covid-19 and reflects the journey of sense-making as we find our way through this chaos.

This short film was built upon the gifts of fellow artists in residence, as well as SIX’s JoSoKe, in the form of audio recordings and video snippets of our lives across continents.

Improvisation is the spontaneous creation of music. When a musician improvises, he or she invents music at the moment of performance, building on the existing theme and structure of the music.

Jazz generally consists of a combination of composed, arranged and improvised elements, though the proportions of one to the other may vary. In collective improvisation, two or more members of a group improvise at the same time. Improvisation, both collective and solo, builds a relationship between the members of the ensemble, helping them to “talk” to one another and express their personalities, hopes and visions for the future.

In other words, improvisation is what makes jazz the music of possibilities.

Eily Aurora

Two draft meditations from forthcoming project “The Song of Nature: Meditations to re-connect and co-create” —

These meditations are designed to help you tune-out of the noise of the city, and tune-in to the frequency and endless wisdom of nature. It is here where we can rebalance our hearts and minds to our natural place as a caretaker of our Mother Earth. May we all move, create, act from this profound interconnectedness.

To make the song of nature audible, Eily uses The Music of the Plants device. It's an instrument able to perceive the electromagnetic variations emitted from the surface of plant leaves and the root system and translate them into sound. Nature is not only alive, but aware and responding to her surroundings. In fact, trees have up to 20 senses to take in their environment!
